Frequently Asked Questions

There are many ways a postpartum doula can support you. You may need someone to hold your baby so you can shower, have a meal, or take a nap. You may be excited (and nervous) for baby’s first bath, and want someone to walk you through it—or have questions about bottle feeding or nursing your baby. You may need someone to prepare a meal, and sit with you so you don’t feel alone—or maybe you just need a full night’s rest. Postpartum doula support can look different for everyone.

I believe fostering a sense of warmth and trust is foundational to doula care—and allows communication to flow easily between the doula and client. I look to find the approach that meets you where you are in your journey, and honors you and your baby’s natural rhythms.
When it comes to infant care I use a blend of experience, evidence-based information, and following your baby’s cues to attune to their needs.

Sleep Training is not biologically appropriate for newborns. They naturally have night wakings in order to meet their calorie intake, protect against SIDS, and seek comfort.
As your doula, I prioritize responsive care and meeting your baby’s nutritional needs. Once your baby is past their birth weight, we can start gentle sleep shaping; which involves creating a consistent routine of soothing steps that help baby relax and fall asleep. With this positive sleep foundation, it’s less likely you’ll need to sleep train your baby later on.

I work with Carrot Fertility for reimbursement and am listed in their directory of doulas. I may be able to work with other fertility benefits such as Maven or Qualcomm. For private health insurance, please contact your insurance company for details on whether they are offering reimbursement for doula care. I currently am unable to accept Kaiser, Medi-Cal, or TriCare.
If you are ineligible, please contact me and we will find a way to get support for your family.
